Suite No. 1 for Wind Symphony
Suite No. 1 was compiled in 2006, but the movements were not all written in the same year. The outer movements are actually re-orchestrations of two earlier pieces: Wonderland Parade (2002) and Ferris Wheel March (2004), respectively. The Procession was composed in 2006. Because the marches were originally intended for a younger, smaller band, I divided some parts and spread some voices apart for a larger, more wholesome sound. I also doubled the length of the first movement with the addition of a trio. I found the juxtaposition of three pieces spanning nearly five years to be very interesting, and maybe even a little instructive.
The piece was performed by the Brown Wind Symphony on April 29, 2006.
