Fantasy for Wind Symphony is a lively, tumultuous work conceived in 2007 and completed in 2009. The piece explores a wide variety of sounds, textures, and dynamics, but holds fast to a brief, ubiquitous motif. Above all else, the work is intended to engage the performer as well as the listener.
The piece was premiered by the Brown Wind Symphony on April 28, 2007 and has enjoyed several performances thereafter, including the university’s presidential inauguration ceremony of Christina Paxson. Fantasy for Wind Symphony was selected as the winner of the first annual Bandmaster’s Academic Society of Japan Competition, as well as a finalist in the 2nd international Frank Ticheli Competition. The piece was performed and recorded by the Kawagoe Sohwa Wind Ensemble in Tokyo on February 11, 2010.
